This whole spring break just flew by. Only 2 more days left. My daughter and I are going to hang out all day tomorrow, unless she gets bored with me. lol I think we might make a cake, give each other a pedicure and play a bunch of board games. We are also going to put up the Easter decorations.

My husband and I went to do our running around late today. Our power went out today about 11 am and we left for the store at about 12. I think the power went out because there were 30 mph winds and that is what happened last time the power went out.  My daughter said the power didn't come back on until 2 pm. We got home about 3 pm.

I made a chicken stir fry with asparagus, carrots, corn and broccoli. It was ok. I was the only one who ate it. My husband just wanted a sandwich and my daughter and her friend wanted mac and cheese and popcorn chicken. Sometimes I feel like a chef.

I want to give a shout out to my sister in law Sandy. Today is her birthday.  I hope your day was special.  My brother birthday is tomorrow. He turns 65.  April is a very busy month. We have Easter, niece's birthday party and niece in law is having a baby shower. I always know as soon as it starts getting warmer all the parties start happening.

I am going to try to get to bed early tonight. I told my daughter that we have to get back on track because school is in 3 days.

I forgot to tell everyone that my cucumbers are already sprouting

in the containers. I hope they hold off until we can plant them in a month or so.

Well, I am off to count sheep.

My daughter is finally home. We picked her up last night at about 7:30 and got home around 8:30. She looked like she has grown an inch. She is about 5'3" already and she is only 11 years old. I missed her so much. We got to bed pretty late because we were up talking and just laying around in bed. I finally told her I was getting tired at midnight and she went to bed. I finally woke her up at 11:30 this morning. Her friends have been calling since 9:30. She got up made some phone calls and was out the door. She said she was going to the park and while she was there one of her friends called to have pizza at her house. I get off the phone and my daughter is at the door saying none of her friends were at the park so she went to have pizza at her other friends house. I am going to have to get her her own phone line soon. Not!

Well, it is a beautiful day today. 68 degrees. I am off to sit on the back deck and read. Have a great day everyone.

I got to spend about 30 mintues last night with the husband. While he was eating a sandwich and some vanilla pudding I made for him his work called and said they wanted him to start at 2am. Well, it was 8 pm when they called so he knew he had to go to bed to get about 5 hours of sleep. He got home today at 2:45 pm and went straight to bed. He asked me if the movies needed to be back today and I said yes. This is one of those times that I wish I drove.

Today I planted some seeds indoors in my containers. I planted cucumbers, carrotsand various bell peppers. If they don't start sprouting in 4 weeks we will probably go to a nursery and get the little plants. I bought a terra cotta pot last year for my herbs and when I got it home it said it was for strawberries but it worked out. I dried a lot of my herbs. I still have a plant of basil and rosemary. I dried the lavender, thyme and some rosemary. I hope to do dill, cilantro and a few others this year.

I was reading a very interesting article in the Sunday paper. It is about how in Berlin street parking is tight. A high-rise building under construction will have 11 so-called CarLoft units. The residents will drive from the street onto an elevator platform-a CarLift-that will take them to their floor, where they will pull forward and park on an extension of their balcony, a.k.a. the CarLoggia. Each residence will have space for 2 or 3 cars. And then, of course, you will have the magnificent prospect of gazing from the comfort of the sofa directly onto a parking lot. I loved the way the writer phrased that. I just can't imagine something like that. Maybe when it will be like the  and cars are flying. LOL

I really have a taste for kiwi. When we went to Sam's Club they had them but they were $4.88. They were really big but I thought a little too expensive. My husband told me to get them but I didn't and now I am regretting it because we only have 2 oranges in the house and I don't want an orange.

Ok I am off to do some research on the internet.

Boredom

Today is just one of those day. I woke up at about 9:45 and the house was silent. Hubby off to do a side job and daughter gone for 5 days. Had some coffee and made all of the beds. Made some spaghetti with black beans, tomatoes, onions, garlic and veal in it for lunch. It was very good. I told you I am having a boring day.

Watched Derailed last night. It was ok. Some of the parts were boring but all in all with the different twists and ending it was good. I didn't lke the movie Prime that much. It was funny in some parts but slow.

I called to talk to my daughter at 10:30 am but she was still sleeping. My friend said that they were up watching Titanic until 1 am. I said if she doesn't call me later that I would call her tonight to say goodnight. You never know how much you miss them until they are gone away.

I might have my husband bring down the Easter decorations and put them up tomorrow. I am not sure. I might even wait until my daughter gets home because I know she loves putting up all the window clings. I think this is going to be the last year my mother in law has Easter. My niece is thinking of taking over. My mother in law is 70 but I swear she seems like she is in her 50's. She has the most beautiful garden I have ever seen. Once I get my digital camera fixed and her flowers start coming up I will put a picture on my journal.

I just got my new Family Circle magazine in so I am off to read for awhile and maybe look for more graphics and blinkies.

Spring Break

It is officially spring break. My daughter got out of school today at 1:30 and does not return to school until April 3rd. My girlfriend came and picked her up to spend 5 days with her daughter.

Sara has gone to the old school with this girl from kindergarten to 4th grade. They are still really good friends. I am going to miss her so much, but I know she is going to have a great time. She took her bike  and we couldn't find her roller blades but my girlfriend said she had an extra pair somewhere. It is suppose to get warmer next week so hopefully she will be able to ride her bike.

All day today it has been snowing, sleeting and raining. When I woke up this morning I thought I was dreaming. I looked through my bathroom blinds and everything was covered with snow. Today is one of those days that I wish I had a fireplace. I can't seem to get warm.

Today is my husbands day off and we are just being lazy. We went to the bank, Sam's Club and then to Blockbuster. We got 5 movies.

He is watching one of his war movies right now and I wasn't to interested in it. It is called Jarhead. I am thinking of watching the movie Prime that I rented upstairs in the bedroom. I love being under the covers and watching movies especially when I am cold.

Have a great

What's in a name?

This is my real name. I am not sure if I told the story of how I got my name but here goes. I am the youngest of 8 kids. There are 6 boys and 2 girls. My mother and father took turns naming us. Well, since my mother named my sister Suzette it was my dad's turn. My father named me after our uncle's boat.

I kid you not. It was called the Detje B. and the B was for their last name. I have struggled with my name all my life. From the time I started first grade, you didn't have to go to kindergarten way back when lol, to being an adult. I have to spell it all the time. When I was a banker I used my nickname Dutch. It was so much easier. When I was calling a new client and left a message with my nickname and they would call back and asked for me they always thought they were going to get a man. Go figure. lol When my dad passed away I thought about changing it. I thought long and hard about it but I couldn't do it. Everyone knows me as Detje Bea. My younger nieces and nephews call me Aunt Bea, you know from Andy Griffith Show. Now, I live in Mayberry RFD. We don't even have a police station. Our officers are in a trailer. They are building a station this spring. Well, enough about my name.

How is everyone today? I am feeling pretty good. It is going to be about 43 today. We had a few snow flurries yesterday but nothing to speak of. We are going to have a few more today. Everyday the temperature is suppose to go up.

I was sitting in my upstairs bay window when I saw 2 male cardinals and 1 female.

I love seeing more and more signs of spring.

Tonight we have my daughter's volleyball awards. This is her second year in volleyball and I am so proud of her. She gets better and better every year.

I am not sure why I put that happy graphic up. I am not very happy today. My daughter and her friend were taking pictures with my digital camera and she bought it downstairs and said it sounded funny. I told her that the batteries needed to be recharged. I got up this morning and put the batteries in but the lens won't come out to take a picture. Not sure what I am going to do yet. Wait till she comes home from school.

Over the weekend my daughter said she watched Bambi 2.

I didn't even know that there was a Bambi 2. She said it was good. I would like to see it because I love Bambi, Flower and Thumper. It is one of my favorites.

The winds have really picked up again today. 30 mph winds. Right now it is 29 with the wind making it feel like 16.

Well, I am off to right out some bills.I also want to make a nice turkey sandwich

and read my book. I haven't picked up my book in a few days. I stopped at a really good part.

Pathways to Peace

One of my good friends on line sent this to me. I wanted to put it in my journal. Click on it and click on view presentation. So beautiful.  Pathways to Peace

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING

The graphic said Happy Birthday First Day of Spring. I like that. Even though it is pretty cold here. 33 degrees and only going up to 38 I think I will celebrate spring's new birthday. I am going to hibernate for about 5 more hours though. My  husband's work called at 11 pm and wanted him to start at 2 am so I stayed up to make sure he got up on time and then could not go back to sleep until 4:30. Boy, I am really dragging today. On Mondays I strip the beds and wash the sheets but I will either do it later or tomorrow. I am thinking of maybe taking a shower to wake up and just take a little nap this afternoon. Oh the hard decisions. LOL

I was watching the news this morning and they said spring officially starts at like 12:36 this afternoon. My calendar in the kitchen says not until tomorrow. I guess I will just celebrate 2 spring days.

You can see the buds coming up on the side of my house. I can't think of the name of them but they get real tall and they are orange. I know it will come to me soon.

My head is almost touching the end of my desk so I am going to get a few more hours of sleep.
